Developing a custodial cleaning quality control checklist helps supervisors and managers maintain service levels and control costs. A checklist helps ensure consistency in performing tasks. Custodial supervisors also have the tools to monitor and track the performance of the custodial workers. Keeping records provides the historical data needed to spot problems and identify areas of success. Custodial supervisors must determine the objectives for the quality control checklist, such as maintaining the highest level of cleanliness.
Supervisors must also make a commitment to provide training to develop custodial or housekeeping knowledge, job performance skills and cleaning techniques. Training must include safety awareness training and include employees, students or visitors in supportive roles to enhance the custodial program. An example of a supportive activity is placing a form in the restroom asking customers to report deficiencies. A custodial checklist must include written instructions on the proper care of equipment.
This maintenance ensures equipment safety. Types of equipment include custodial carts, mops, brooms and buckets. Power equipment may consist of vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, carpet extractors and autoscrubbers. Supervisors must instruct custodians to clean the equipment after each use, and store it away when done.
Standards & Guidelines
Also, custodians must inspect power equipment before each use and evaluate power cords to identify any frayed wiring or loose or broken plugs. Custodians must not use equipment in need of repair and must notify the supervisor of equipment in such need. Custodial supervisors must separate cleaning procedures by function and include daily, weekly, monthly and annual objectives for various areas.
Supervisors must assign high and low priorities to these areas. Areas may include the following space designations: entrances, lobbies and corridors; offices, lounges and conference rooms; and bathrooms, cafeterias and kitchens.
Daily cleaning duties may entail vacuuming carpets and mats, removing soil spots, emptying receptacles and cleaning entrance door glass panels. Monthly duties may include dusting window blinds, spot cleaning walls or restoring the finish on resilient floors.
Another approach may consist of a more descriptive rating system, such as exceptional, exceed standards, meet standards, marginal or unacceptable. An exceptional rating may include criteria such as "floor covering bright and clean" or "no dust on vertical surfaces.
Custodial supervisors must Implement a plan to ensure ongoing monitoring for quality assurance, measuring results and reporting performance and trends. Reports must document deficiencies and the corrective actions custodians are taking, or will take, to eliminate the deficiencies. Custodial deficiency reports contain information such as the area or space, date inspected and items on the cleaning procedure or custodial checklist.
The report uses a rating system that the supervisor has chosen. The report can track results for the current period as well as ratings for past inspections. John Landers has a bachelor's degree in business administration.

In my experience, a good inspection program can help a custodial department in many ways. For one, it gives the employees an opportunity to showcase their expertise. The inspection program also encourages the staff to interact with management to resolve challenges they are facing, or act as a sounding board for new and creative ideas. A good portion of the practices we use in our green cleaning program have actually come directly from innovations by our employees.
Empowering the staff and giving them ownership helps create a successful program. In our department we emphasize cleaning for health and using the most environmentally responsible methods that are practical.
In other words, we practice green cleaning. While keeping our buildings aesthetically appealing is vital, the health of the occupants is paramount. They also offer the means for us to better educate our employees and staff on the importance of cleaning for health, and to train them on new processes where needed. Thus, the culture in our department has been one of regular inspections for custodial and cleaning issues in all our school buildings. Our inspections are always unannounced and can be done weekly, quarterly or any frequency in between, depending on the needs of the building.
We will also conduct inspections in the evening hours, while the cleaning is being done. Consistency is a plus when conducting these inspections.
Custodial Quality Control Checklist
Our custodians know that they can and will be inspected at any time. This helps them keep their edge when maintaining buildings. It reiterates that quality is integral to our custodial culture. And constant inspections provide opportunities for staff to speak face-to-face with the supervisor about issues and concerns they may have. Regular inspections also guarantee that cleaning issues are dealt with in a timely manner. They provide management with opportunities to look for safety issues, as well.
We can spot tripping hazards, fire hazards and other unsafe practices while walking through facilities. We can also detect and correct care of equipment, frayed cords and unsound cleaning issues.
Quite the contrary: Our inspectors are mentors and teachers who assist our custodians in mastering their craft, with the ultimate goal of having our people succeed. Inspections also identify where training is needed.
Following a walk-through, inspectors will sit down with the custodial supervisor to discuss options that can help that building or a specific custodian in bettering their program.

Director of Facilities Westfield Corp.Getting a 23-7 win against the Cincinnati Bengals with the team's best offensive piece missing speaks volumes to the firepower behind one of the league's most unexpected runs. The defense is a big part of this with 35 sacks and 10 interceptions while allowing 14.
This isn't meant to suggest the Chargers don't have a chance. But veteran Philip Rivers isn't going to have long to throw in the face of such a stout defensive front, and Fournette and the Jaguars shouldn't have a problem controlling the game flow and cruising to another win.

CHICAGO, IL - SEPTEMBER 24: Head coach Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers stands on the sidelines during the game against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on September 24, 2017 in Chicago, Illinois.
The adjustment in the line shows just that, the head-scratching response to the horrible performance by Ben Roethlisberger and company in Week 5. The Steelers are still 3-2 and in control in the AFC North but they hardly look the part of AFC powerhouse.
Meanwhile the Chiefs have picked up that mantle with ease, taking out playoff hopeful teams each and every week, from the Patriots and Texans in the AFC to the Redskins and Eagles in the NFC. However, the Steelers are the kryptonite, so to speak, for the Chiefs and present a challenge not to be overlooked. The Steelers have owned the Chiefs, including two wins just last year.
During the regular season, Pittsburgh put over 40 points up on the vaunted Chiefs defense, including five touchdown passes for Roethlisberger.
In the playoffs, the Chiefs lost to the Steelers despite not giving up a single touchdown in an upset win for the Steelers. It will be interesting to see if the Chiefs can break this streak against Big Ben and put another win on the board in Week 6. Sirry was great to work with and having telephone access for questions also helped, though email was very efficient. The journey to Flam was among the highlights, though we loved all the cities.

Everyone was amazing at the company that Nordic Visitor used for this trip, very professional people, the staff very friendly and very knowleagable of the are, loved it. This is my second trip with Nordic Visitor and I am a big fan of this company and the staff, always answering my questions and customizing my needs of what I want to do. The overall experience in Lapland was amazing and very well organized, you always feel taking care of without been pushing, so you feel also free to do your things.
I highly recommend travelling with Nordic Visitor. Nordic Visitor made everything SO EASY. All I had to worry about was showing up on time. Everything was taken care of, and it really gave me peace of mind and allowed me to enjoy my vacation. We enjoyed both the quality and variety of accommodations in our program. We were particularly happy that we chose guesthouses rather than hotels because it gave us more extended contact with locals on a personal basis. All the hotels were fantastic.
The suggested tours were all appropriate. The timing and deadlines were clearly communicated and the directions easy to follow. Sirry did a wonderful job of working in some extra days for us at the beginning and the end of our trip.
Found on Google and selected option from website. We did a 10 day tour with 2 days extra in Reykjavik - hire car package and all accommodation Went like clockwork only better. We managed to see most of the recommended high spots from the wonderful itinerary which was prepared for us - plus a few other extras. We managed seven hot bathing experiences and only had to pay for two of them. The Hotels were excellent - very friendly people too, and we managed to see the northern lights at one of them at 1.
The overall organisation of train and boat travel was excellent. All bookings for hotels were accurate and instructions to find the hotels were easily followed. Breakfasts were very good. A well organised experience, which, because we had limited time, provided us with an itinerary that met our needs and gave us time to explore the destinations at our leisure.
Our trip could not have been any better thanks to you and your services. Sara was excellent in helping us to complete our trip. Thanks to Nordic Visitor, Iceland was a wonderful place for a 5 day break. Nordic visitor provided an absolutely outstanding service, with agreed content, care hire, transfers, hotels, road maps marked up with great places to stop and even a mobile phone in case of problems.
My wife and I have traveled extensively all over the world and worked with many different agencies and tour providers. This was the most well organized, thoroughly documented, best planned self-guided tour we've ever been on. We are very impressed with the level and quality of service we received and would not hesitate to recommend Nordic Visitor anyone.
Travel from stations to hotel was quite easy. We didn't need to walk far or pay for service. Hotel breakfasts were full on brunch fare in the USA that would have cost a lot.
The service we received from Nordic Visitor was excellent. Our Travel consultant Sara was prompt in replying to all of our queries and more than happy to accommodate any of our requests. The information that we received to support our self guided tour around Norway was particularly useful and enabled us to make the most of our time in Norway.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Norway and would definitely recommend Nordic Visitor to others. We loved the country of Norway - the scenery, the friendly people, the efficient public transport, the cleanliness - and would love to return some day, maybe to see the Northern Lights.
Thank you very much to Sirry for organising everything for us. She did a fantastic job, and everything went off very smoothly. We have come back to South Africa with very special memories of a wonderful holiday spent in Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Sofia was very helpful. All the hotels were close to the central train stations.
I will definitely book with Nordic Visitor again next we visit the Scandinavia. Sofia was very kind and patient about my MANY questions to her via e-mail. She was thorough with her answers, and had me well prepared for this trip of a lifetime. Having a limited amount of time there, we did not want things to hang up anywhere along the way so we appreciated that all the accommodations were worked out, the rental car was worked out.
It was nice to just hand over a voucher and have things taken care of. We were pleased with the way it all worked out.
